SkillanNaylor Car Company becomes SkillanNaylor Classic Motorcycle Company!
We are very privileged to offer for sale this 1965 Ducati 250cc Mach 1 which in period was the fastest production 250cc motorcycle available.
A beautifully engineered piece of Ducati history — the 250 Mach 1 represents one of the most iconic single-cylinder sports motorcycles of the 1960s, built to celebrate the brand’s racing dominance and designed for riders who wanted to experience genuine track-bred performance on the road.
Introduced in 1965 and derived directly from Ducati’s successful 250cc factory racers. Powered by Fabio Taglioni’s masterpiece 248cc bevel-driven OHC engine, fitted with a large Dell’Orto SSI carburettor and close-ratio five-speed gearbox, it produced around 28 bhp and achieved a remarkable top speed of 100 mph — making it the first quarter-litre road bike to do so.
Its lightweight chassis, clip-on handlebars, rearset controls and racing-style fuel tank gave the Mach 1 genuine café racer character straight from the factory. Combined with Ducati’s trademark desmodromic valve precision and impeccable handling, it delivered a riding experience that was both thrilling and beautifully balanced.
The Mach 1’s reputation was cemented by its success in competition, most famously when Australian rider Jim Redman and later Mike Rogers used near-standard examples to win the 1965 Isle of Man TT 250cc Production class, a result that established Ducati’s single-cylinder line as one of the finest of the decade.
Highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, the Ducati 250 Mach 1 remains one of the most desirable single-cylinder Ducati's ever built — an evocative blend of style, speed and technical brilliance from a golden age of Italian motorcycling.
This motorcycle was first registered brand new in the UK on the 12th May 1965. It was fully restored approximately 10 years ago and has been stored a private collection since then. It is fitted with a modern electronic ignition which makes starting the bike much easier.
Although it would be a travesty for this beautiful motorcycle not to be ridden it would make a stunning addition to any enthusiasts man/woman cave.
