Combine that engine with hydraulic-free but beautifully judged Porsche chassis engineering, relatively compact dimensions and timeless styling, and it isn't difficult to understand why good 981 S examples are increasingly regarded as modern classics.

This particular car has many of the ingredients enthusiasts look for: the larger 3.4-litre S engine, seven-speed PDK transmission, 20-inch Carrera S wheels, an excellent colour combination, sensible mileage, just two owners from new and a full service history.

There are newer Boxsters. There are faster Boxsters. But there is a compelling argument that the 981-generation 3.4 S represents one of the sweetest points in the Boxster's evolution – modern enough to use every day, analogue enough to feel genuinely special and powered by an engine whose sound and character are unlikely ever to be repeated.
