The Volkswagen Tiguan is a hard car to define. Its probable rivals would be the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3 however its a larger car than all three. You could then say that it should be pitched at the next category up i.e. the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC or Audi Q5 however it undercuts all three on price. By being both larger than its main rivals and less expensive makes the Volkswagen Tiguan very good value.

The VW Tiguan was first launched in 2007 and was based upon the mark 5 VW Golf architecture. It offered an elevated driving position thanks to its increased ride height. It was available with both petrol and diesel engines and 4-wheel drive or in VW speak 4Motion was offered on some models.

The generation one Tiguan stayed in production until 2016 when it was replaced by this car which is a generation 2. Although there are some Golf elements present in the Tiguan the gen 2 car is actually now based on a different, slightly bigger platform which is why it now offers more space over its direct rivals.

In 2016 the UK government was still banging the drum for diesel powered cars as at the time they were thought to be better for the environment due to their lower C02 output. This car bucks the  trend by being a petrol powered car. If you look on Autotrader and compare the availability of petrol to diesel VW Tiguan's you will see that petrol cars from the 2016-2019 era are much rarer. This makes this car much better suited to island driving thanks to the lack of a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) that can block if driven on continued short journeys.

This VW Tiguan is powered by a 2.0L 4-Cylinder Turbo Petrol engine that develops 180 BHP. This gives the car decent performance and acceptable economy. The engine is connected to a 7-Speed DSG Auto Gearbox. A gearbox of this type uses two clutches to change the gears. This is a benefit because one clutch does the odd numbers i.e. 1-3-5-7 and the other clutch does the even numbers 2-4-6. This means that when the car changes gear the next gear is already selected by the second clutch meaning the gear change is very smooth and quick. This car is also a 4Motion (4-Wheel drive) model that features individual selectable driving and terrain modes giving this car genuine all-terrain ability.

The VW Tiguan is offered in a variety of trim levels from S, SE, Match and like this car R-Line. R-Line gives you a more defined body styling kit, larger bi-colour Alloy Wheels and R-Line branded sports front seats.

Like all German cars the factory options list available for this car is quite extensive. This car benefits from having the interior upgraded to full black Vienna leather and with a Panoramic Glass Sunroof. This car also has heated front seats, side steps and privacy glass to name just a few of the features on this car.
