Evolution - 'The gradual development of something'.
First launched in 1964 the Porsche 911 has continued to evolve and is still available to purchase new today. The current model is referred to as a 992 and is the 8th generation of the 911 model. If you look at an early car and a new 2022 car side by side you can clearly see they are closely related. The upright windscreen and swooping tail section remain in both cars. Crucially the placement of the engine which as at the rear of the car also remains.
In 2011 Porsche introduced the 7th version of the 911. This model is referred to as a 991. The 991 was an entirely new variant based upon a new platform. The 991 is predominately made out of Aluminium so thanks to this and a modest power increase it is significantly lighter and faster than the model it replaced.
In previous models the 911 was available in two body widths. The wider body is often referred as a 'Turbo Body' as this was usually reserved for the Turbo model. In the 991 all of the models feature the wider body style which improves the aesthetics and promotes the muscular stance of the 991.
As mentioned, the engine in a 911 and in this 991 model is placed at the rear of the vehicle. This placement is relatively unique to Porsche and shouldn't really work. Most other car manufactures place their engines at the front or in some sports cars in the middle of the chassis. This helps with weight distribution and consequently the handling of the vehicle.
Having the heavy engine slung out the back of the vehicle shouldn't and didn't work on earlier 911's. Some owners of early cars even resorted to placing additional weight in the nose of their cars to counteract the weight of the engine placed at the rear.
As mentioned the 911 is all about evolution and it's this constant fettling by the designers and engineers at Porsche that have got the 911 to where it is today. That is to be regarded as one of the best handling sports cars available. The 911 is used as yard stick by which all other sports cars are measured. Yes a Porsche is never a 'cheap' car however when you compare it to the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini it looks very good value.
This Porsche is a 991.2. The .2 refers to it being a facelifted model first introduced in 2015. To go with the new platform the .2 upgrade introduced a new engine variant. This being the 3.0L Flat-6 Twin Turbo Petrol. Gone was the sonorous, high revving normal aspirated 3.8 Flat-6. Many enthusiasts bemoaned the loss of this iconic engine. That was until they had driven as car fitted with the new twin-turbo engine. The revs had dropped but the power & torque were up. It still sounded like a Porsche but now with added aggression from the whoosh and pop from the turbos. High revs are great on track but the torque from the turbos make the car better on the road.
The 911 has always been offered in wide variety of models. 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, manual or auto gearbox's, coupes, Targa's or convertibles. This car has all of the best options ticked. This being 4-wheel drive, a 7-Speed PDK twin-clutch auto gearbox and a convertible body style. This all means that the car performs amazingly well in all weather conditions, shifts gears quicker than you can blink and lets you here the sound of the engine and wind in your hair when on any driving adventure.
The 3.0L Flat-6 Boxer Twin Turbo engine is also offered in two states of tune. These being the standard set-up and 'S'. The standard set-up offers 365 BHP and the S 414 BHP. Again this car gets the best available and is an 'S' model.
Being a convertible model means you get to enjoy driving your car with the roof down. Porsche offers the folding soft-top in a choice of colours. To compliment the body colour of classic GT Silver Metallic the roof is Boudreaux Red. This matches well with the full black leather upholstery and Satin Black 20" Alloy Wheels.
This cars looks and drives like a new car. This is due to it's fantastic condition, full Porsche service history and low mileage of just 16,372 miles.
In summary this car looks amazing, drives superbly in all weather conditions and is presented in fine order. To match this top appearance and performance, is a top specification.
